Phase I, 2014 – Phase II, 2018

Throughout the renovation and restoration of the Memorial Union, UWRS was dedicated to preserving historic and loved features while doing selective demolitions, additions and remodeling to better organize the building’s functions, and to improve circulation, life safety and service activities necessary for the smooth operation of the facility.

In Phase I, circulation was clarified, universal accessibility was provided and the two theaters (the Union Theater and Play Circle Theater) were improved. Additionally, the Union offices were better consolidated. Also added to the Union was a makerspace, multipurpose room and game room.

In Phase II, components included the renovation and updating of Rathskeller, creating new food options, hotel room renovations, re-design of the beloved Union Terrace, new stage and outdoor food venues.

Designed in collaboration with Moody Nolan Architects.
